Sheila L. LaFortune is board certified in Midwifery. She has over 25 years in healthcare. Originally from Massachusetts, she attended University of Massachusetts Boston where she studied nursing. After working years in nursing in various specialties such as emergency room and intensive care units, she discovered midwifery after the birth of her daughter who was attended by a midwife. She went back to school to complete a Masters degree at Stony Brook University. She worked on postpartum units , community health nursing and various outpatient OBGYN offices. She taught undergraduate and graduate nursing students at Emory University as well as medical students in private practice. After working in private practice, she went back to school to complete her doctorate in nursing practice as well as a Post -doctoral Teaching Fellowship with Emory Woodruff Health Sciences Center. Her clinical interests include prenatal care, nutrition in pregnancy and lactation.

She is passionate about helping women during the most precious times in their lives. When not seeing patients, she spends time with her family and loves to travel and meet new people and experience different cultures.
